Side events
The side event programme of re:publica Berlin has been continuously expanded over the years and is now an integral part of re:publica. At the first digital re:publica you can also discover various side events inviting you to experience art in digital space, to talk to other conference participants or to become active yourself. As with all conference content, the supporting programme is accessible to everyone free of charge on the website re-publica.tv.
The side events #MemersForFuture and Superinternet.Space/ASAP are presented with the kind support of DKB – Deutsche Kreditbank AG, the patron of our side event programme.
#MemersForFuture: A digital exhibition by Clusterduck
Memes make us laugh, they surprise and entertain us, they play with social conventions and subvert or reinforce prejudices. But can they also save the planet from climate change? Based on their research on the use of memes in the climate justice movement, the Clusterduck collective will reflect in a digital exhibition how the role of images is being reshaped by social media platforms #MemersForFuture is a continuation of the artistic and theoretical research that started with the project #MEMEPROPAGANDA, launched by Clusterduck in 2018 in cooperation with Greencube.gallery. While #MEMEPROPAGANDA was looking into the use of memetics in marketing and political propaganda, #MemersForFuture is focusing on groups and movements like Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion.

Superinternet.Space/ASAP: A virtual art space to participate in
The Superinternet.Space/ASAP at the re:publica in digital exile is one of our side event highlights: This virtual room offers free artistic expression for up to 100 participants. Anyone entering the digital space will receive an easy-to-use drawing palette and can take part in a collective art event with the look and feel of the 1990s. This place reminds of the early days of the internet. In times of Corona it offers a welcome distraction and introduces the principles of digital common property: Participation and sharing.
After May 7, we will publish a video collage of your ideas and small works of art, summarizing the creative action.

Human Rights Film Festival Berlin presents NOVAYA
On the occasion of #rpREMOTE, Askold Kurov's impressive portrait of the Novaya Gazeta— one of the last independent newspapers in Russia—can be streamed free of charge for 24 hours on May 7.
The documentary film was awarded with the Willy Brandt Documentary Award for Freedom and Human Rights at the Human Rights Film Festival. In the eyes of the jury members, the images speak for themselves and provide us with an intimate introduction of a group of advocates for freedom of press and opinion. We are very pleased to be able to show this highly topical film in friendly cooperation with the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin.
